Sara Faust, co-founder and president of Faust Harrison Pianos in White Plains, N.Y., wants to share her love of music and the arts with Westchester County. With almost 30 years of experience in the piano industry, Faust is taking it to the next level at the center in White Plains, adding concerts, factory tours and art exhibits.
“We got our rep in the early years from our rebuilt Steinways,” the Irvington resident said. “We are a destination for people who are looking for restored vintage Steinways or who want to have their own Steinways restored.”
The expanded new space in White Plains is now regularly available to individuals and groups for tours. The tours give people a chance to see how pianos are restored from beginning to end and to then see dozens of finished products in the showroom.
The art displays at Faust Harrison will change periodically throughout the year. The present show, “Piano As Art,” by artists Penny Putnam and Shauna Holiman, will be on display through early March 2012. It is a collection of major works that Putnam and Holiman created almost entirely from discarded, old parts of pianos. The next stop for the exhibit will be the Flinn Gallery in Greenwich, CT.
Faust Harrison has also begun a new concert series. “We are going to be hosting a concert series of special artists,” Faust, a former piano soloist, said. “These will be world class concerts, open to the public, free of charge.”
The concerts will include both classical and jazz pianists.
As Faust explained, artists often visit the center because they want to pre-perform a program before bringing it to a major stage. “What a perfect situation this is. We are working on the 2012 season now.”
Faust said turning the showroom into a cultural center is a good way to give back to the community.
“This is not only a place to buy great pianos,” she said. “We are a new cultural center for Westchester. The county has never had anything like this.”
